All Things Go

An exhibition featuring Matt Coombs and carrie R.

When an idea exists purely in the mind, it is limitless—unbound by rules, logic, or the constraints of reality. In this realm, it can take any form and evolve freely, full of possibility. However, when ideas remain confined within their echo chamber, they stay unchallenged, still just ideas. Once released into the physical world, ideas begin to take shape and solidify. This process involves the environment, culture, and unseen contexts that act as co-creators. As ideas are interpreted by others, they evolve into something larger than their original conception.

Through this exhibition, Information aims to represent this transformative process. Coombs’ abstract paintings embody the elusive and ephemeral nature of thought, while Carrie R.'s sculptures serve as the solidified personification of these ideas, shaped by both the artists and the outside world.

All Things Go featuring Matt Coombs and Carrie R. will be on view at Information from October 26th through November 30th. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 26th, from 5-8 PM at 2024 E Westmoreland St., Philadelphia, PA.

About the Artists:

  • Matt Coombs (b. 1988 Cayuga, NY) is an American artist currently living and working in Philadelphia, PA. Concentrating primarily on painting and drawing, Coombs references the landscapes from his upbringing in rural Central New York, and the light he observed living in Sarasota, Florida. In March 2020, Coombs waged his third solo exhibition “Lawn + Landscape” at Late Space in Pittsburgh, and has participated in numerous group shows across the US and London. These include Project Gallery V, Huntington Museum of Art in West Virginia; Vox Populi in Philadelphia; the Woodmere Art Museum, PA; The Print Space, London; Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado; and Target Gallery in Alexandria, VA. He earned his MFA in Painting and Drawing from Tyler School of Art in 2016, and earned a BFA in painting from Ringling College of Art + Design in 2013.

  • carrie R (b. 1990, New Jersey) is a Philadelphia-based artist working in the mediums of sculpture and drawing. carrie received her BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University where she received a James O. Dumont Travel Grant Award. She has exhibited recently with Good Mother Gallery (Los Angeles), Cherry Street Pier at Delaware River Waterfront (Philadelphia), The Clay Studio (Phil.), 5-50 Gallery (NYC), Field of Play (NYC), Commonweal (Phil.), and Blah Blah Gallery (Phil.), as well as Below Grand (NYC) and Paradice Palase. She participated in the 2023 SPRING/BREAK Art Fair with 5-50 Gallery, and her work has been featured in Two Coats of Paint, Mister Magazine, Suboart Magazine, Munchies Art Club Magazine, and O FLUXO.
Her recent work includes free-standing and wall-based sculptures made in aqua-resin with embedded, blended pigments and rough applications of oil color. carrie’s work references heightened emotional reactions, freak accidents, and solitary moments—all which occupy a psychological space that is a little undefinable. Often pointy, curvy, and biomorphic, these forms combine fear, curiosity, and exaggeration while expressing a sensitive relationship to gravity.
